returned to Strassburg, where my mother remarried. As the

treatment, accorded to us three boys by our German stepfather

was unbearable, my two younger brothers went over to Beaumont

in France, and I went to Gymnasium in Strassbourg. I finished

that with 19 years, and went then to University in Leipzig.

When I was called up to register as soldier in my 20 years, I

applied to the American Consul Doederlein in Leipzig, who saw

things through. Being considered American, I did not come in

any military service. After passing final examination in

Leipzig, I went in my 22 year again to the States, where I

worked with the founder of Zion City, Dr. Dowie, for two years.

I then returned to Germany for 1 years, preparing and passing

examination in Leipzig Theol. College as D.D. After this I

followed an invitation of the founder of the China Inland

Mission, Reverent Hudsan Taylor, to act as his interpreter in

Germeny, Switzerland and France, and I came out with him to

China 1898. Since that time I have not been to Germany, had

no connections whatever with Germany, and was told by the

Consul-General of Germany, that he had no connection with me

whatever.

Therefore, most honoured Sir, it is my

humble petition, to let my son and myself go on to Zion City,

America, to prepare a home there for my relatives from Beaumont,

and my wife, who are now since 20 month again oppressed by the

Frussians. If I had not cancer since two years in my left arm,
